P3M3 Health Check

Rescues and Reviews

The Portfolio, Program & Project Management Maturity Model (P3M3) looks at seven process perspectives and four "generic" perspectives to determine the "maturity" of portfolio, program and project management practices in use in an organisation.

Used in conjunction with the perspectives defined in our Project Management and PMO Health Checks, we conduct assessments to identify the effectiveness and efficiency of current P3 practices, and develop a roadmap of pragmatic improvements to achieve your stated target capabilities, performance levels and outcomes.

The seven Process Perspectives are:

  • Management Control
  • Benefits Management
  • Financial Management
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Risk Management
  • Organisational Governance
  • Resource Management

Portfolios, Programs & Projects are assessed against the following (maturity) levels:
Level 1 - Awareness
Level 2 - Repeatable processes
Level 3 - Defined processes
Level 4 - Managed processes
Level 5 - Optimised processes

Now we need to emphasise that we do not follow methodologies blindly. And that's because while we often find that the theory is sound, "the map is not the territory".

And as impressed as we are with the P3M3 model, our Double Espresso approach dictates that we
focus on the essence, not the froth. And so we make sure that P3M3 is applied in a way that is suitable, practical and pragmatic.
