All I.T. activities support the business in some way, either directly or indirectly. Likewise, I.T. programmes and projects need to be seen as business projects, providing business value.

I.T. and business therefore need to be wrapped up together - IT Business Alignment - but this is more easily said than done.

Our principle of Taking I.T. to the Business focusses on I.T. taking the initiative to achieve IT Business Alignment through the following:

• understanding the business, it's context and it's drivers, imperatives, needs and wants
• defining what "business value" actually means
• translating those needs into work for I.T. and the outcomes to be achieved
• creating business meaningful critical success factors (CSF's), KPI's, KRI's, and measures to drive and assess the work conducted by I.T.
• creating meaningful relationships with business areas
• promoting and marketing I.T. through its achievements, value created and "wins"
